Equipment:
When taking my cake pictures, I use my HTC One phone and my Nikon D3100 Digital SLR camera with 18-55mm VR Lens. The Nikon was a gift but I'm sure you can pick one up at most local electronic stores.
When:
I normally take my pictures early in the morning. I believe that this is when you can get the best light. Make sure you are next to a big window so you can get the most out of the beautiful natural light.
Locations:
Most of my pictures are taken at home. It's just easiest this way.
Setting:
I like to keep a neutral background so that the main attraction can be my work. However, sometimes when I create other desserts and treats, I like to add some props to the picture and have a nice natural background.
How To:
All I can say is that practice makes perfect. The more pictures you take, the better they will become. Be patient because it will take some time. Eventually you will learn to recognize what works for you and what you like then your personality will shine through your images. Have fun with it!
